INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATIVE PROGRAMME ON ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING OF AIR POLLUTION EFFECTS ON FORESTS

Two (Solca and Rarau) of the seven forest ecosystems from Romanian network are monitorised by the collective from the Station. As part of this progarmme, the Station has participated at the Romanian-French Program of evaluation and monitoring of forests health state begining with 1999. The chemical laboratory has participated, beginning with 1996, at the intercalibration exercices, organised by the Instituto Italiano di Idrobiologia, as part of the AQUACON Project. At this exercices take part 140-170 of laboratories from entire world, inclusive from the Programme ICP Forests.

EVALUATION OF THE AIR POLLUTION WITH OZONE AND THE TOXIC POTENTIAL IN THE CARPATHIAN'S FORESTS
The project was developped in the period 11 December 1996-10 December 1999., as a collective study of Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and United States.
The main objectives was: the establish of the spatio-temporal tendencies of ozone in Carpathians and the evaluation of the potential of biological resources in Carpathians. The coordinators of the project was:
- from USA: Bytnerowich Andrej, USDA Forest Service,  Pacific Southwest Research Station Riverside, CA; Manning William, Department of Plant Pathology, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA and Musselmann Robert, USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station, Fort Collins, CO,
- the coordinator for Europe of the project: Krystyna Grodzinska, professor, Ph. D.,  Institute of Botany, Polish Academy.
The Station was responsable for two of the six points of monitoring from Romania: the point 21 Obcina Mare from Forest District Marginea and point 22 Rarau from Forest District Pojorata.
According with the methodology, was installed filters for the captation of O3, SO2 and NO2 and also was performed investigations of the forest vegetation from the neighbourhood of the poins mentioned above. In 1998 was the commune meeting of the coordinator for Europe and of USA, with this occasion being visited the both points and collected the last data fro the final repport.

INVENTORY AND STRATEGY FOR SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT AND PROTECTION OF VIRGIN FORESTS IN ROMANIA

The project is carried out by the Royal Dutch Society for Nature and Conservation (KNNV), in partnership with the Forest research and Management Institute (ICAS), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Society "Progresul SIlvic" and independent international experts. The Dutch institutions which support this project are: Dutch Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MATRA Found - Program International for Nature Management).
From Romania, the Project is possibil to implement thanks to the special support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests (MAAP), Ministry of Waters and Environment Protection (MAPM) and the National Forest Administration (RNP).
